Glam Halloween Tablescape & Murder Mystery Dinner (“Among Us” Style)

Does anyone else have kids who play “Among Us” all the time? Both of my girls, as well as my nieces and nephews, are OBSESSED with this game. And, since they are all over 12 this year, we decided to change things up from our traditional Hay Ride Trick-or-Treating and do something more age appropriate. So, our annual Family Halloween Party has turned into a Murder Mystery Dinner “Among Us” style.

Setting the Stage (aka tablescape)

I decided to make our dining room super spooky this year with “hovering” candle sticks over the table! My little one loves Harry Potter, which is where the idea originated. After our main inspiration was chosen, we picked our color scheme. Black was a definite, but we added pink for a unique twist. I always like giving the house a scary feeling on Halloween and this was just the way to do that. Since this spooky scene would only be displayed in our dining room for a couple of weeks at most, I really wanted to keep this Glam Halloween tablescape low cost. Thankfully, I was able to find most of the items at Target so it was very affordable! Keep reading for all of the shopping details 🙂

Floating Candles

In order to get the look of floating candle sticks, I knew I would need some realistic LED tapered candles. I found these at Target and they were just what I needed. In order to make them look as though they were hovering, we just tied fishing line to the flames and used packaging tape to make them stick to the ceiling.

Spooky Trees

I found our spooky trees that I used as a centerpiece from Bath and Body Works! As soon as I saw them, I knew I was going to buy them. I can’t link them, because they are sold out, but here is something similar from Jo-Ann’s. Bath and Body Works is not a typical store to shop in for Home Decor, but they do occasionally have some really unique items for the Holidays!! Usually they use these pieces to decorate their stores with and they are available to purchase, too! I know everyone thinks of body lotion and candles when it comes to this store, but don’t forget to check there for decor as well!

Gauze Fabric Table Runner

This is the first year I purchased gauze fabric to decorate my Halloween table with. It’s super inexpensive and it really added to our spooky vibe. I found both the white and the black gauze at Target for only $5!! This gives a similar look to spider webs, but it is way easier to work with and can be used for so many different things.

Pumpkins & Other Props

Target’s faux pumpkins were so good this year!! I LOVED these all black leather skull embossed fabric pumpkins with the gold stems. They also came in a deep purple, too! However, these pumpkins with the gold beading were my favorite! I bought them in all sizes and in both black and white. I also loved this mercury glass Halloween skull. These candle sticks also added an eerie glow to the table that I loved!

Pottery Barn Rose Gold Glass Pumpkins

I did reuse my rose gold mercury glass pumpkins from Pottery Barn that were in my kitchen during the majority of the Fall season. The hint of pink in them was such a nice contrast against the rest of the all-black decor. I have them in three sizes: Large Gourd, small pumpkin, and mini pumpkin. I really loved these pieces and I know I will continue using them for years! They definitely amped up the glam vibe I was going for. 😉

Place Settings

This festive table will be the perfect setting for our Murder Mystery Dinner Party! For the place settings, I used my everyday dishes from Pottery Barn (Julianna Scalloped Dinnerware). Next, I chose pink glass chargers that I had purchased from Hobby Lobby underneath the plates, just to add another small touch of pink. The ones I have are sold out, but I have linked similar ones here. I tied a black gauze bow around each of the white napkins and added these spooky spiders from Target that I spray painted silver! I also used wine glasses with pink crystal sugar around the rim and filled the glasses with pink lemonade. However, Rosé would be perfect if this was an over 21 dinner party!

Murder Mystery “Among Us” Dinner Party Game

This is the fun part! On Halloween night, we will be playing a game similar to “among us” ( or “Clue” for those of you in my generation!) My daughter actually got this idea from TikTok! It is called “Clued In” and I purchased this printable game so we could all participate in solving the mystery throughout the night. You can find the game here! The game can be played with 8-12 players and there is no game board since everyone will be up and moving trying to find clues to figure out the murder. At the end of the game, we will find out who the “imposter” is as well as the crime location and weapon!

Thank you for reading all about our Glam Halloween and Murder Mystery Dinner Party! I hope everyone has a safe an spooky Halloween! Happy Decorating, Friends!
